Texas is in for a short warm up and then it's going to cool a little again. During the warm up later this week the potential for severe weather and tornadic activity will increase. As we stand now the nation has seen about 205 fewer tornadoes than would occur by this time during an average year. That trend is expected to continue though Texas and the deep south may see a spike later this week.
The Atlantic hurricane season has been projected to be about average for this year according to NOAA,CU, and Weatherbell. Of those three sources Weatherbell is the only one that revises it's forecast through the year and they have come out with a revision. No great increase in numbers but they are saying now that it's looking like the potential for development of storms close to the US coast has increased considerably. This of course is not good news for the US. Hurricane Wilma made landfall in Florida on Oct. 24, 2005 and it was the last time the Continental US was hit by a CAT III or higher storm. That's 10 years and 7 months since the last major hurricane struck our shores and that is a record. There is a very good chance that record will end this year since the potential for near in storm formation has jumped considerably.
First forecast:
Current forecast:
As for the rest of the us? Well it's going to be suddenly summer up here in Indiana and Washington, DC after a period of well below normal temps may well see the 90s on Memorial Day. Meanwhile up in Yellowstone late Saturday there were roads closed due to a heavy snow. Heavy snow closes roads in Yellowstoneand the Sierras up in Oregon got a pretty good snow also. So much for the claim that the ski industry in the US would be decimated by global warming.
As for the climate wars?
The Portland Oregon school board voted last week to ban all literature that casts any doubt on man caused climate change. Dark Ages descend on Oregon
The spirit of Hitler's National Socialists is growing in Oregon.
“Where one burns books, one will soon burn people.”
