Sometimes Carter calls at the damndest times. They called me last Sunday while I was mowing my acre. No time to finish. Just get a shower and fill my thermoses and I was out the door. Driver working out of northern Indiana doing a 5 stop run five days a week in Wisconsin had gotten sick and was hospitalized. I drove up I-65 to a truck stop at exit 230 in Indiana and unhooked her tractor from the trailer and hooked up to the trailer and took it up north of Milwaukee to Port Washington, WI and took a break. Then on Monday I did two stops there in Port Washington and then stops in Janesville, and Pleasant Prairie, WI before beating my way back down through Chicago afternoon rush hour traffic and heading home. Got back to Anderson at about 23:00 on Monday.
Tuesday I went to vote in the Indiana primary figuring the yard would be dry enough for me to finish mowing that afternoon. As I stepped up to the voting machine my phone rang. Carter again. I voted, went home, took a shower and was out the door again bound for Etna, PA (Near north side of Pittsburgh)
Thankfully my neighbor had my back and finished mowing my lawn for me.
The Ft. Pitt tunnel was closed going into Pittsburgh but I figured out the detour and did my drop & hook at the A Dui Pyle terminal in Etna at 23:30 Tuesday night. Drop the trailer loaded with Monroe shocks and struts and hooked to an empty trailer. Then I pulled out to my usual parking spot just outside the terminal in the center of a triangle formed by the junction of 3 minor roads and took my 10 hour break. At 10:00 Wednesday I picked up a load of 36,000 lbs of boxed juice from a warehouse just 5 miles north of Etna on the river and got back to Anderson at 17:30. Immediately upon arrival at my home terminal I dropped the loaded trailer and hooked to another one loaded with Monroe shocks and struts bound for Etna, PA again.
Delivered in Etna, PA at 24:00 that night, hooked to an empty and took my break in the same place as I did before. At 13:00 Thursday I picked up a load of 43,000 lbs of antifreeze at a industrial terminal 30 mi north of Pittsburgh on the river and took that to the Carter terminal in Vandalia, OH (Near the Dayton airport) where I dropped that trailer for one of their local drivers to deliver it the next day down near Cincinnati. I hooked to an empty trailer that needed some work and took it back to Anderson and dropped it in the out of service line to be repaired and then parked my truck and went home.
Friday I managed to get my yard mowed and this Saturday afternoon I will grill steaks for me and Sherry. Then it's off to bed early because at 02:00 tomorrow I take an empty plated trailer up to Findlay, OH to the Ball metal container facility there and get loaded with empty cans to take to a place in Newport News, VA.
