Sunday at 06:00 went back on call again after a very nice week without having to carry my work phone with me where ever I went. After a pretty active winter of driving I needed a break and my 2015 Freightliner needed several things done to it so I just took a week off. That way it gave the mechanics time to get everything done to the truck so I wouldn't have to use a loaner if called out. I hate using old loaner trucks. So Sunday I rode the bike down to work and checked on the situation. First I went to check on the truck.
While I was off the garage took care of my laundry list of write ups:
Annual DOT inspection.
Oil Change
Minor oil leak from the front main engine seal (they tell me they fixed it)
Squeaky idler pulley or belts (belts replaced)
Shimmy at highway speeds in the left front (replaced the steer tires)
Inoperable bunk heater (claim it works now)
12V outlet back near bunk that has never worked (they say it works now)
Replace winter weight wiper blades with summer weight ones.
So they say the truck is ready to go. We'll see. More than once after having given them a laundry list of work on a truck I've then broken down the very next trip out. All but once it was something unrelated to my write-ups. Just seems to go that way for some reason.
After checking on the truck I went to dispatch and found that all loads for Sunday and Monday were covered so if I get called out during that time it will most likely be because of a driver calling off or some other emergency that pops up.
Because of rain on Wednesday and Thursday this week I didn't get everything done I wanted. Did manage to get the yard mowed twice. The first time it was so high I had to use the lawn sweeper and hauled six loads of clippings back to Bettys garden. I also sprayed all three yards (mine and my neighbors to north and south) for weeds. While I did that Steve used his back pack sprayer and put 12 month Roundup down on the driveways.
So now it's back to the grind stone but we should be coming into the time of the year when calls for us guarantee drivers slow down considerably. Taking a personal day on May 3rd to vote in the primary. We get 2 every quarter but I hardly ever use one. I also signed up for a free online course titled "Constitution 101" from Hillsdale College.
